How to Tip in Sri Lanka 🇱🇰

Currency: Sri Lankan Rupee (Rs)
Average monthly salary: about 285 USD

💡 General Tipping Etiquette

There is a strong tipping culture in Sri Lanka; wages are low so it’s an important additional way of making money.

🍽️ Restaurants

A 10% service charge is usually included in restaurant bills (developed places). In small snack places you can just add 50-100 Rs on top of the prices.

🚕 Taxis

Add 50-100 Rs for short rides, even if prices are fixed (which is important to do)

🏨 Hotels

In some hotels there are tip boxes, where Rs1000 – 1500 per day is a good rule (3-6$). If not, just tip 100-200 rs per transfer or per night for cleaning staff.

👨‍🌾Tour guides

RS 400-500 an hour per group (2-3$)

🌏Region
