How to Tip in Burundi 🇧🇮

Currency: Burundi franc (BIF)
Average monthly salary: about 115 USD

💡 General Tipping Etiquette

Remember not to be too flashy with your money and valuables though. Burundi isn’t the safest country and one should always take caution when traveling on their own.

🍽️ Restaurants

Service charge isn’t included in Burundi, expected only for higher end restaurants. You should tip up to 10% depending on the service and the quality of the service you went to

🚕 Taxis

Tipping taxi drivers in Burundi is not expected, but if it was a pleasant ride then you should round up

🏨 Hotels

Tipping in hotels isn’t common and isn’t expected. If a staff member goes above and beyond a small token is a nice gesture. Sometimes there are tipping boxes so in the end of your stay you can give a couple of dollars in the box.

👨‍🌾Tour guides

If you are taking an organized tour in Burundi than usually you should expect to tip the driver and guide about 5-10% each. This is all dependent on the quality received from the guides.
